Coaching
ADHD Life Coaching leads to greater life satisfaction for individuals diagnosed with ADHD. As medication can help regulate moods associated with ADHD, and therapy can help alleviate feelings of rejection and isolation often associated with ADHD, it is now being recognised that Coaching can play a valuable role in assisting an individual with Executive Function challenges commonly associated with a diagnosis of ADHD.
Executive functions are skills such as:
- Self-Awareness
- Self-management
- Problem Solving
- Attention Management
- Emotion Regulation
- Working Memory/Planning
- Organisation
- Time-Management
- Prioritization
- Motivation
- Distraction
A common challenge for a person with ADHD is to just “get started” on a task. The unique ADHD brain is often only motivated to do something that gives an immediate reward (temporal discounting), and so individuals with ADHD will often put off any task that is un-interesting, difficult or only offers a delayed reward.
Another challenge often experienced by someone with ADHD is becoming easily distracted by something more ‘fun’ to do. This can lead to impairments in leading a fulfilling life, both personally and professionally, when you are constantly avoiding what needs to be done.
Anissa will work with you using ADHD specific tools to come up with personal strategies to put into regular practice, which become daily habits towards leading a fulfilling life. Through identifying your strengths, Anissa will also help you come up with your own set of personal goals to work towards. A key component of success in coaching is the interim support received between sessions, so Anissa will check-in regularly to see that you are on track, and to work with you on any barriers stopping your from moving forward.
How Does The Coaching Process Work?
- Sessions are 60 minutes, and can be in person, or via Zoom.
- Sessions can be weekly or fortnightly.
- Anissa prefers clients to commit to a minimum of 12 sessions to see change. (It is usual that clients usually begin to lose interest around week 4 or 5, once the novelty starts to wear off. This is when your coaching relationship really matters.)
- A Coaching Agreement of 3 months is usual, after this, you and Anissa can reassess if you would like to continue coaching, or perhaps spread your coaching out to just once a month.
- Anissa prefers payment up-front, however this can be discussed depending on your personal circumstances.
"The real goal of a coach is to give you clarity on how you see yourself, and ultimately teach you skills to be your own coach."
